Improvements for the Monon.
The directors of the Louisville, New Albany <fc Chicago railroad were over their property some weeks since on a quiet tour spectimi, and some very significant improvements have just been or--1 deretl td be begun at once by them, j The betterments are all with a view • to cutting down the running time, 1 and a vast sum of money will be f expended acquiring the desired lend. The earnings tor the past year have shown increases over the year before by handsome figures, and this surplus, or the greater * part of. it. is to be applied in such a way as to make the earnings of j 1890 exceed even those of this I year. Sixty pound steel rails will be laid on the Indianapolis division over its entire length, while rails weighing fifty-six pounds to the yard will be placed on the division between New and Indianapolis. All the bridges will be examined and strengthened, where it is found necessary, several I eurv'es will be straightened and ! one or two wooden structures replaced by powerful iron and steel structures. The directors and the inanagement are determined to have Ilnur Louisville-Ohicago line first class in every particular, and when the proposed betterments shall have beeu made the present running time will be cut considerably.— Louisville Courier-Journal.
