Improvements for the Monon.
The directors of the Louisville, New Albany <fc Chicago railroad were over their property some weeks since on a quiet tour spectimi, and some very significant improvements have just been or--1 deretl td be begun at once by them, j The betterments are all with a view • to cutting down the running time, 1 and a vast sum of money will be f expended acquiring the desired lend. The earnings tor the past year have shown increases over the year before by handsome figures, and this surplus, or the greater * part of. it. is to be applied in such a way as to make the earnings of j 1890 exceed even those of this I year. Sixty pound steel rails will be laid on the Indianapolis division over its entire length, while rails weighing fifty-six pounds to the yard will be placed on the division between New and Indianapolis. All the bridges will be examined and strengthened, where it is found necessary, several I eurv'es will be straightened and ! one or two wooden structures replaced by powerful iron and steel structures. The directors and the inanagement are determined to have Ilnur Louisville-Ohicago line first class in every particular, and when the proposed betterments shall have beeu made the present running time will be cut considerably.— Louisville Courier-Journal.

It possesses the great advantage that it has not been coated with poisonous chemicals to give it color.’ Does the uncolored tea now being imix>rted by Mr. C. C. Starr in Perfection Tea Cans possess any advantage over uncolored -teas shipped to this country in bulk ? Assuredly. Every one knows that uncolored teas will detersorate, if packed in bulk, soon after the leadlining of the tea chests they come in is cut, whereas, “Jewel Teas” cannot lose strength or flavor as the Perfection Tea Can effectually preserves them. ~~ mm i Paxton <fc Moore have the boss scheme, you get a sled with every can of Baking Powder.
I have had Scrofula until it mfide ■ my life a-harden. I was miserable, sick, weak, sleopless and unhappy; desiring I that the short time alotted to me on this earth would hasten to an end. I tried doctors’ treatment and medicine and travel, but none of those did any good for the scrofula gradually grew worse. One physician who I traveled far to see, and to whom I paid $l5O gave up the case as hopeless after three weeks of treatment, and other as prominent physicians tried hard to cure it, but were equally unsuccessful. T then gave up all other medicines, and took only Swift’s Specific. (S. S. S.) | Four bottles of that medicine : cured me, and for the pa6t four. years I have had as excellent I health and am as free from dis- ' ease as anybody living. Words j are inadequate to express my gratitude and favorable opiniou of Swift’s Specific (S S. S.) The ab&ve is an extract from a letter written under date July 19, 1888, by Mr. F. Z. Nelson, a promiuont and wealthy citizen of Fremont, Neb.
Swift’s Specific (S. S. S.) cured my lttle boy of scrofula, from which lie had suffered a long tim e. I had tried physicians and great quantities of other medicines without avail. A few bottles of S. S. S. did the work. He is now enjoying the best of health and has not had any symptoms of the disease for over a year. W. A. Clayton, Addic, N. C. Treatise on Blood and Skin Diseases mailed free.
