The manufacture of postage stamps for the government, an industry which has been confined to Now York for the past twenty-eight years, is likely to bo transferred to this city. The governi ment recently received bids for the | contract, and when they were opened j that of Charles F. Steel, of this city, ! was found to bo the lowest. The award hnsmot yet been made, but there is scarcely a doubt that ho will secure it. He has made an offer to the Girard trust for the old stock exchange, and if it is accepted he will manufacture stamp? there. The -annual output will bn about 140,000,0U0 shetts.
