Shall We Have a Farmers’ Institute.

The question of a Fanners’ Institute, in Jasper county, is beginning to be discussed a little, but not to the extent that its importance demands. The Legislature appropriated $5,000 for the assistance of such Institutes last winter, and state and districtsuperintendents of the Institutes have been appointed. Every County Institute held is allowed S4O from the < sum above named, and this will very j nearly if not quite cover the expens,es of the Institute. Jasper county is jin the 12th Agricultural District and iJ. M. Boggs, of Lafayette, is superin ten dent Of Fanners’ Institutes, for the district, and W. C. Latta, of the State Agricultural College, is State Superintendent. By arranging with i them good speakers from abroad can be secured to instruct the Institute. In circulars sent out by Mr. Latta it is suggested that the Institutes should be held for two days and one evening ; and that the day sessions should he de voted to subjects of special in- - terest to farmers, such as wheat growing, underdraining, the value of clover, the sod, butter making, Ac. Ac. .The evening sessions should be reserved for the broader questions ! touching the relation of Agriculture toother industries, <4 and the educational, social and home topics Ac. Of course all the sessions should be enlivened by several pieces of music. If such an institute is to be held ~ in this county, this year, there is no time to be lest in making the preliminary arrangements, and the first thing to be done, we should say, considering the moribund condition of our County Agricultural Association, will be for a number of representative farmers to publish a call for a farmers’ mass meeting, to appoint i the necessary committees Ac. The call ought to be published by next week, if possible.

A Leopold says that one week's trial in the cash system convinces him that selling for cash only, is the proper way, as you can have uniform prices. Therefore he invites everybody to call, bring their money, and go away rejoicing, knowing that they bought their dry goods, clothing, boots and shoes, hats and caps, gloves and cloaks, at least 15 per cent, cheaper than could have been bought in any other establishment in the town of Rensselaer.
