Mrs. Dr. Bittters is visiting in Lafayette. Mrs. J. W. Williams is visiting friends in Kentland, this week. Mrs. >Sallie Clark, of Tipton county, is visiting at the home of Recorder Antrim. Mrs. M. L. Spitler is attending the National Grand Chapter, O. E. S., in Indianapolis, this week. E. E. Quivey, the dentist formerly located here, is now practicing his profession in Lafayette. _ Miss Hattie Hopkins is in Indianapolis attending General Grand Cbap- ' ter O. E. S. and the State fair. I Marshal Simpson and wife, C. C. Starr and D. 11. Yeoman are attending the state fair, at Indianapolis. ' Elmer Elhs, of Carroll county, visited his brother, J. H. S. Ellis, for several days, going home on Tuesday.
Vai Seib made a business trip to to Cincinnati, last Friday, reaching home Sunday morning. Mrs. E. P. Honan and Miss Mary Myers are in Chicago this week, buying millinery goods and studying the fashions. Mr. and Mrs. Andy Sharp, of central Illinois, yis itedrdatives in Rensselaer for several days, going away yesterday. Fred Phillips has shaken the Princess Dramatic Company, and is now at home. Good players but poor payers. R. S. Dwiggins is president of the new bank just established at Hebron, in Porter county. John Jost, lately of Monticello, is the cashier. Miss Celia Wilkinson has resigned her school at Monon and is now teaching in the city schools of Hammond, at an advanced salary.
Elvin Israel and W. H. Galbreath, of the Veteran Police Patrol, Chicago, are taking a vacation and visiting their old homes in Barkley township. Will Porter with his new bride, nee Melissa Mitchell, and Fred and Albert Hammond, of Coats, Kansas, stalled for their home in that state, last Saturday. Geo. W. Goff went with the Dayton, Ohio, excursion Tuesday to run an eating car. Charley Morlan, Vic Willey and Harve* 5 Robinson went along to assist him. Dr. M. B. Alter attended the reunion of the Army of the Cumberland, in Chattanooga, Tenn., last week, and also visited Nashville. He arrived home yesterday. Mrs. Dr. McMellon, the oculist* has sufficiently recovered from her injuries to be able to resume her professional duties. She will be in Rensselaer next Tuesday, Oct. Ist, with Mts> Mary Hopkins, on Front street. Mr. Isaac V. Alter, of Union township, left for Kansas and Oklahoma last Tuesday, to visit relatives in Wichita, Elk Falls and Guthrie. His aunt, the venerable Mrs. Nancy Alter, who has been in this vicinity for a year or two;-returned with, him to her Kansas home.
