AN INEXPLICABLE DEED.
A Murderous Attempt By a Tramp on the Life of a Boy. On Monday afternoon Jimmy Akers, a crippled and delicate boy erf about 14 or 15 years of age, and son of Tom Akers, was at the Deep Hole, about a mile below town, engaged in fishing, when he was stabbed by a tramp who had been wandering about the place a good portion of the day. Some of the time he is said to have been washing his clothing, or some paper rags (for it would be an unheard of thing for a tramp to wash his clothing) and part of the time wandering aimlessly up and down the river or wading in the water. Young Akers, according to his story, was sitting close to the edge of the river, holding his fishing pole, when the tramp approached him unseen from behind, and reaching h» arm over the boy's shoulder, struck him with the point of a pretty large Haded pocket knife, directly over the apex of the heart.
