The Big Bains.
On Friday last and also on Sunday, this seetion was visited by very heavy summer rains, which appear to have been pretty'general throughout the county. The rain-fall was tremendous, especially in places. That of Friday especially was a perfect deluge, in some tracts, for instance 5 a few miles north of town, as reported by reliable observers. The rainfall on Sunday could not have been less than 2or 3 inches. There was need of rain, but these storms were too much of a good thing, altogether. Considerable hay that was cut but not stacked was badly damaged; much more, in low places, is overflowed and damaged or ruined entirely, while many fields of [oats are much damaged by the falling of the rank, green growth of grain. If however, the weather should now remain dry, so that the oats can be harvested with the binders, the loss on this crop will be much less than was at first generally supposed. Another injurious result of the excess of rain was to compel a general and final Stoppage of corn working. A result which will materially affect the crop.
This is News Indeed.
