THE STATE CAPITAL.
The State Superintendent has pre- > pared the following statistics: Amount of school revenue collected from conn- • ties, $934,5i87.89. State’s semi-annual interest on non-negotiable bonds, $117,143.49. Amount in treasury from all other sources, $8,928.18. Total on hand, $1,061,061.56. Amount apportioned, $1,050,482,80. Balance now remaining in treasury, $10,578.76. This amounts to $1.35 apiece for each child of school age in the State, as there are 770,728 of them. * The Pythian Sisters is an organization composed of ;he female relatives of the members of the Knights of Pythias, and the first Grand Lodge in the United States was organized at Indianapolis Tuesday. The Pythian Sisterhood has been in existence but a short time,- but there are in Indiana seventeen iodgeß with a membership of over eight hundred. The Grand Lodge Knights of Pythias met here Tuesday and Wednesday with a representation of 350 members. The total receipts for the year were $15,339.C6; disbursements $7,136.12. Number of lodges at last report 181; organized since 24; suspended 1; net total 204. Total membership Dec. 31, 1888, 14,657. The condition of the subordinate lodges at the close of December, 18 8, was as follows: Total receipts, $102,276.39; paid for relief and burials, $16,586.84, current expenses, $41,( 25 05; tota 1 expenditures, $57,615.89. Cash on hand at the close of year, December 31, 1888, $44,665.50; investments, $58,357.37; value of lodge property, $94,855.04; widows’ and orphans’fund, $36,867.85; total resources, December 31,1888, $234,745.76. Paid for relief of widows and orphans during the year; $1,029 98. The following officers were elected: Grand Chancellor—JudgC J. C. Suit, Frankfort. Grand Vice-Chanoellor—A. C. Hawkins,Evansville. Grand Prelate—Elmer F. Williams, Terre Haute. Grand Master of Exchequer-C. F. 8. Xeal, Lebanon, Grand Keeper of Records and Beal—Frank Bowers, New Castle. Grand Warden—W. C. Sites, Ft. Wayne. Grand Trustees—E. G. Herr, Goshen: Georga W. Howe, Indianapolis, and L. A. Barnett, Danville. Supreme Representative—Charles D. Sbivelev, Cambridge City. Those counterfeit ten dollar treasury notes with which tbe State has been deluged, continue to get people into trouble. Major Carner, of the Secret Service, has arrested Wm. Rhind hammer, of Richmond, and Alonzo Barrett (recently from the penitentiary) at Terre Haute, circulating the bills. * Barrett passed through here last week and was Bbadowed by the government officers. Sullivan, the defaulting clerk of this county, is in Toronto. His wife will join him soon and personal property belonging to him has been shipped to that place. Dr. Charles E. Wright has taken his position as Superintendent of the Insane Asylum here, succeeding Dr. Galbraith. Thißcity claims a population of 159,OCO under the new school enumeration. Piofessor John Collett has instituted quo warranto proceedings against Prolessor S. S. Gorby in tbe Dearborn Circuit Court. The latter must answer and set forth why he continues to hold the office of State Geologist while the former wants it on the 20th inst.
