MIGARIGLES RETURN.
The Chicago Fugitive Voluntarily lit turn* from Exile and Plead* Guilty. W. J. McGarigle, ex-Warden of the Cook county, 111., Hospital, who has been a fngitive from justice under indictment as one of the “boodlers” in the county ring, living for some time in Bauf, British Columbia, walked into Judge Shepard’s court room shortly before noon, Friday, and delivered hintself up. McGarigle pleaded guilty to s charge of conspiracy. A fine of 91,000 was at once imposed, and when it is paid he will be free. When McGarigle fled to Canada nearly two years ago he was under sentence of two years in the penitentiary, but a petition for a new trial was pending in the courts. After his departure the petitions for a new trial in his case and that of Ed. McDonald were denied. McDonald’s case went before the Supreme Court, and the decision of the lower court was reversed. The action before Judge Shepard'was simply'the granting of a new and immediate trial to McGarigle, and the imposing of a fine on his .plea of guilty. McGarigle made his escape artfully. Sheriff Matson had taken aim to ms home to permit a change of clothing. McGarigle went into a bath room and dodged out by a rear entrance. Friends were in waiting and helped him off in a carriage. He took a yacht on Lake Michigan and cruised about for several days, finally landing in Canada, where he has sines lived. —————-
