Rensselaer Republican, Volume 21, Number 36, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 9 May 1889 — THE LIGHTS ARE LIT. [ARTICLE]
THE LIGHTS ARE LIT.
The electric lights are now an acjcomplisbed fact. The etirrent was ' turned bn to the street lamps, for the j first time, last Thursday night, and was continued every night thereafter j until the superior radiance of the { waxing moon made further street j lighting temporarily unnecessary. On 1 Saturday evening the commercial ’circuit was connected and the stores | and business Houses were illuminated, iAs to the character of the strbet ' lights, it is too soon to form judgment, as, owing to the want of an “indicator” they were not In complete working order. The lights in the business houses and offices, and residences so far as they have been extended, are giving complete satisfaction, and are pronounced a success in every particular.
