The Convention That Was Held.

MORLAN, The Republicans of Rensselaer held a mass convention in the court house, last Monday evening to nominate a ticket for the ensuing town election. ■- ' Nearly 12.5 voters were present and took part in the proceedings. The convention was organized by electing W. W. Watson G. E. Marshall secretary, J. C. Morgan and R. P. Benjamin tellers. On motion, the order of norninations was as follows: Councilman, Third Ward, Councilman, Fifth Ward,*Clerk,Treasurer and Marshal. The nominations were made by ballot, where more than one name was proposed for any office; where only one name was proposed, by acclamation.
■->' THIIiD WARD COUNCILMAN. The names of E. D. ithbades, the present incumbent ami H. W. Porter were promised. Mr. Rhoades positively declined to be a candidate [and Mr. Porter was nominated by ! acclaruation.FIFTII WAKD COUNCILMAN. F. B;Aleyer, Emmet Kannal, and Alfred Thompson, the present incumbeht, were pro{xjsed. Mr. Thompson refused to lie a candidate and a ballot nominated Mr. Kannal; he receiving 51 votes to 37 for Mr. Meyer. CLEUK AND TKEABUBEK. Fred L. Chilcote, the present Clerk and C. C. Starr, the present Treasurer, were re-nominated for their respective offices, by acclamation. TOWN MAKHUAL. The candidates for Town Marshal were like the proverbial “Autumn leaves in Vallambrosa” both in respect to number and the positive char acter of their “rustling.” The names of all the aspirants are given in the FlliST kaixot; E. 11. Crosscup 4 Whole number Of votes 109, necessary to choice 55. At the second ballot 120 votes were cast. Tlie votes of the three leaders were, Morlan 21, Platt 39, Zea 25. No very’ marked changes were apparent in the votes of the ■other candidates. Thompson, and Crosscnp now withdrew from the contest
. The third ballot was still propitious for Platt, his vote increasing to 44, while Morlan only held bis own at 21 and Zea fell off to 22. No marked change among the others The number of votes cast was 117. Comer and Adams now withdrew. On the fourth ballot Morlan had 31 votes, Platt 48, Zea 25, Bissenden 10, Morgan 8, Gay 1. Number cast 122. Gay’s name withdrawn. The fifth ballot gave Morlan 4.3, Platt 50, Zea 15, Bissenden 10, Morgan 5. Votes cast 123. Zea and Morgan withdrew. On the sixth ballot Morlan got the lead with 53 votes for him to 49 votes for I’latt, 3 for Z«i, 8 for Bissenden, 1 for Morgan. The seventh ballot settled the contest, 11G votes were east and 59 necessary forictivice.
