A Remarkable Dog.

Pedro, the remarkably intellifent canine owned by Erastus ’eacock, died of lung fever a few weeks ago. He was one of the most intelligent dogs ever owned in this vicinity. He evidently understood every word said to him, and willingly and faithfully executed every order. He was always vigilant for the safety of the members of the family and Bhowed surprising intelligence in making known his wants. He was regarded by all who knew him as being endowed, if not by reason, at least with an intelligence seldom seen in the lower animals. After days of suffering, during which he received with indifference the attentions bestowed upon him, and only a few hours before his death he came to the house; and by a bark asked to be admitted. He approached each member of the family in turn, who fondly caressed him. He then returned to his bed and died without a struggle. This mute parting was very affecting and long to be remembered, and sincere tears of sorrow were shed by more than one, at the loss of this faithful friend. ~“l.etcavlllers deny Thariimtcs iiav* reason; 'suro :tis something more, >Tis Heaven directs, and stratagems inspire, Bevond the short extent of bum an thought.’' V
