Activity in Reai-Estate. an Evidence of Prosperity.
Our greatly esteemed contemporary, the Monticello Herald, in speaking of the transactions in real estate in White county says:. “The transfers of real estate entered for record at the .Recorder’s office last week exceeded in number any previous weens record for five years past 'lhe activity in the real estate market is very noticable and indicates a season of prosperity in all lines for White county this year.” We congratulate our friends of The Herald on this discovery of evidence of prosperity, and for the sake of illust amg the growth anil prosperity of our own county will say that the week’s transactions in White county real-estate which The Herald so justly regards as an evidence of awakening prosperity, would only be regarded as a good average showing in this county. The total number of the transfers for the week alluded to by the Herald as given by that paper itself, is 25, and of those 8 are sheriff’s deeds. By way of comparison, we give the number of transfers in Jasper county for the past five weeks: For the week ending Jan. 19,the number was 33. For weekending Jan. 26, the number was 27. For week ending Feb. 2, the number was 17. For the week ending Feb. 9, it was 20. For the week ending Feb. 16, the number was 16. And nary a sheriff’s deed in the whole five weeks. The average for the five weeks is nearly 23, or only 2 less than for the phenomenal week, in White couhty, and 5 better than
that, if from the Herald’s list we deduct the 8 sheriff *s deeds, which would be no more than fair, for instruments of that nature are mighty poor evidence of prosperity- ' ..
