PROHIBITION IN MASSACHUSETTS.
Some interesting figures showing the tendency of Massachusetts on the question of licensing the sale of intoxicating liquors were submitted to the Legislature Tuesday oy the Secretary of State. In 1886 tut of 349 cities and towns only 74, or “21 per cent voted to grant licenses. The popular ma joritv - against license showed 50.9 per cent, of the people of the State to be in favor of the policy of prohibition. In 1887, with the same number of cities and towns, 63 voted yea. ,TJie majority against license had become 51.58 per cent of the total.
The total vote was 16.6 percent, greater than in 1886. In 1887, when thri number of cities and towns was 351,85, or 22 per (rent, voted yea. The total vote increased 2.6 per cent in this year and 53.45 per cent, was in favor ot license.
