The Kankakee Swamps.

At the meeting held at Chicago, last Friday, to devise a way for draining the Kankakee River marshes, in Indiana, Gov. Hovey and the Indiana Legislature w;ere memorialized to make an appropriation for removing the ledge of rocks, in the Kankakee at Momence, 111. It is estimated that the cost will be about $40,000. County committees, for each county interested, were appointed to circulate petitions, asking the State Legislature to make the necessary appropriation for removing the ledge. The committee for Jasper county is I. D. Dunn, Wm. Dahncke and George Hoehn.
