The book of “Robert Elsmere” by Mrs. Humphrey Ward, has created quite a sensation in the religious world. Mr. Gladstone, the ablest layman in England, has written and and published a review of the book, defending theology from its attacks. A number of the leading clergymen of Chicago and other cities, have deemed it necessary to defend the Bible from the criticisms of the book, from their pulpits. I am not surprised in the least at the contents of the book, as it is simply a rehash of the the Sadducean dogma of “No Miracles.” I will review the book next ing, at the Church of God, and answer the supposed arguments against the Bible. This will be my farewell sermon as I expect to leave for the south sometime next
week.
