“We Object.”
Monticello Herald. A funny thing happened Tuesday in the circuit court during the trial of the cause of Dickey against Garrigan, which came here by change of venue from Pulaski county. Judge Reynolds, whose ability and vigilance as a trial lawyer are so well known throughout this circuit, and who is now holding his first term, was watching the maneuvers by which Garrigan’s counsel were endeavoring to introduce indirectly a piece of incompetent testimony that the court had once ruled but, and when at last the main question, which was clearly’ irrelevant, was propounded, the words were not fairly out of counsel’s mouth before the Court, being carried away by the instincts of the veteran advocate, lost his j udicial equilibrium and shouted out “We object!” A burst of laugher from jury, bar and witnesses at once recalled him to a realization of his position, and with ready wit he, added in almost the same breath, “And the Court sustains the objection.” j
