Whigs and was one of the earliest Republicans. His strong sympathy was enlisted for the American Slaves and lie many times aided their underground passage to the Canada L.rder. He was present at Anderson, this Stiite when Tred Douglas was mobbed for speaking in the interest of l. s race- His business has been farmlug and the practice of medicines'—to which latter practice he was attracted early'in life. During the time he has * lived in Jasper county he has been an uncompromising Republican and ag gressive in the party’s interest. The , Doctor has lived through eventful times in onr country, has witnessed wonderful changes and will be missed by a large circle of friends and a'cquaintan ees. His death occured at ids residence s:> Kens seiner at 11:15 o’clock p. iu October 23; J' v bß, surrounded by wife, children, grandchildren and other rela:’.:ives and friends.
