A LIAR DENOUNCED.
THE AUTHOR OF THE D<U.LAR-A-DAY LIE GETS HIS DESERTS. The Knight* of luibor Condemn Edwin Gould mid Hl* lufanion* Falsehood*—■He I* Arraigned for Trying to Put the Order to Ease Cue*—A Circular Letter That , Can Be Eaally Cndergtood. ■ x~ ? - Last week we published the history; ! origin and refutation of the “dollar-a-dav" lie and other falsehoods reflecting on Gbn, Harrison, whibh were invented , and circulated by- Edwin F. Gould. This man Gould, who is under pav from the Democratic national and state committees to do "political lying by abusing even his alleged connection with labor organizations, is being denounced by assembly after assembly of the Knights of But of all the resolutions to-this effect none meet the case Letter and show the true feeling of the workingmen toward Gould more fully than the following: A LIAR AND HIS FALSEHOODS CONDEMNED. . At a meeting ofArmstrong assembly;, No. 2212, Ki of L,, held at Indianapolis, Ind., on the evening ofJDct/TI, 1888/at which the following officers were presWi)t: John Medert, master workman; E<l ward S, Pope, recording secretary; Michael Crosby, delegate to district assembly 14)6 and member of the legislative committee of district assembly* 106, ahd C. A. Johnson, delegate to district assembly 106. it was unanimously decided to send the following i circular-letter to the Knights of Labor:. Sanctuary Armstrong Assembly, Nol 2212, Indianapolls, Ind., Oct. 11, 1888.—To all Knights of Labor, Greeting: In the* interest of our order we believe it to be our duty to call the attention Of all Knights of Labor to a circular issued by local assembly 263, K. of L., at Canisteo, N. Y., whiph contains a letter dated at Indianapolis Ind., Sept. 10, 1888, sealed with the seal of district assembly 106, K. of L., and signed by Edwin F. Gould as recording secretary of the same. We do this for the following reasons: First. Edwin F. Gould was net authorized to write such a letter. He used the seal of district assembly 106, and signed as recording secretary not only-without authority, but without the knowledge of the master workman or members of district the legislative committee. Second. The Knights of connected with district assembly 106, and with the local assemblies represented by district assembly 106, did not know of the existence of such a letter till its publication in the Indianapolis newspapers, more than three weeks after the date it was alleged to have been written. Third. We denounce and condemn the action of Edwin F. Gould as wicked and malicious, and doing a great wrong to ourorder, ii being well understood, and part of the law governing pur order, that political action shall npt be taken by* an assembly. - * . \ ~ „ Fourth. It is fully understood by* the members of the K. of L. in this city that Edwin F. Gould i? an unsc.ru pitlous polit ical worker, and that he has sought to use our order for furthering his political schemes on other occasions a,s well as this. We understand and fully believe that he has been and now is in the employ of the Deiv.cx-ratie party, and that he has been sent into the state of New York by the managers of the said party, to advance the interests of Grover Cleveland. and to injure the reputation of Gen. Harrison, and" To destroy, as far as possible, the usefulness of- our order. Therefore we warn all Knights of Labor everywhere ( to lieware of Edwin F. Gould as unreliable and wholly untrustworthy. Fifth. We denounce as maliciously false the statements made by said Gould that Gen. Harrison so id that “a dollar a day* was enough for any workingman,” or “that he would force them back to work if he had to wade in blood up to the tips of his fingers.” or that he “would shoot them doyvn as dogs,” and other .similar statements. John Medert, Master Workman,-.—--Edward S. Pope, Recording Secretary Armstrong Assembly-, N©;-22W-K:~«f-L-. — • ; fSeaTJ Gould stated that his lies were especially indorsed.by the legislative committee of district assembly 106, Knights of Labor. It will be observed in the above tha.t one member of the committee, . Michael Crosby, denounces him and his falsehoods; The workingmen who thus stamp upon Gould and his lies are independent voters. Not one of them is a Republican. John Medert; the master workman, strenuously opposed Gen. Harrison two years ago. when the latter w«is a candidate for United States senator. It was Mr. Medert who had charge of the interests'of Mr. Allen, the Labor candidate for senator at that time.
