Carpenter to Republicans.
Youi correspondent had the pleasure of visiting Republican “headquarters, last Saturday -in Remington. Every thing was in fine shape. The decorations show good.taste and enterprise on the part of those good people who had th is incharge. It hqs a seating capacity fur a good audience, with a stage for speakers and galleries for glee club an d band, and all artistically draped with the stars and' stripes. I imagine some of the gentler sex must have lent a helping lYandTn this work. - —The LU’publicans of southern Jasper are enthusiastic fellows, not that “I don’t care” kind we sometimes meet. I met an enthusiastic democrat who said “Cleveland is the greatest man that has occupied the presidential chair since Jackson.” I asked him purely-tor inforin&tiQiJ,what , -peculiar-.nets K of Mr. Cleveland. demonstrated his greatness? He stammered somewhat and seemed to be at a loss tor an answer. I suggested probably it was the Rebel Flag order or the pension vetoes, if not it must be his great success at fishing while loyal people were paying tributes of flowers and tears to the memory of those tvho gave their lives for their country. My friend seemed to be waxing hot and I had urgent business in another quarter. The ’■“fellows that know” told me that Carpenter would roll up. a much larger Republican majority than ever before. I hope they will and let old Marion do one
better.
