A GOLDEN WEDDING.
On August 20, 1838, Miss Susanna Rice and Mr. William 11. Cotton were married at 1 Morgan- j town, Pa., the- home of the bride. Last Monday was the fiftieth anniversary of that wedding, and the day was fitly observed at the Rome j of-the aged couple, in Rensselaer, ; by a family reunion. There were eight children born of'this union, ail of whom are living and all but one of whom were present. Those j present were, Mrs. Myrtilla Kile, i of Morrow Go., Ohio. Frank L. ] Cotton, o! Omaha, Neb. Mrs. j Minnie Plummer, of White Co., ind. Mrs. Mofen.ce Pierce) of Columbus, Kaus Mrs. Della Thompson, of Chicago, and Miss i Anil a Cotton, of Rensselaer. The 1 other con William, who lives in Da-1 kota, was not present. In addition to tire above were present Mrs. F. ; L. Cotton and sbn, of Omaha, and Mrs. Martha Rice, of Licking. C 0.,., Ohio, and Mrs. Angelina Slaughter, of Remington; these two last being sisters-in-law of Father and Mother Cotton. The features of the reunion, 1 Monday, was a grand dinner and i the bestowal of a number of desir-' able presents; among which were an elegant gold headed cane, for i the old gentleman, by son Frank; to each a pair of gold spectacles, by Miss Arilla; gold headed umbrella to Mother, by all the daugh- ' ters; gold coins by Mrs. Kile, Mrs. j Rice and Mrs. Plummer. The whole party repaired to Sharp’s gallery 'and were photographed in a group, in the afternoon. , j In the evening the Rensselaer Cornet Band called at the resi- ' deuce and gave a serenade. The band members were welcomed by Frank, who, in a neat speech, told them, among other things, that at ; the wedding 50 years before, the couple were serenaded by 300 ! young men, on horseback.
