M. Daugherty has gone to Porter county again, and next Monday will begin another year of teaching in that county. The contract for the cut stone for the foundations of the new M, E. church, has been let to W. W. Reeve. The subscription list is increasing daily. * Mr. Fatout, contractor on the new county asylum, is pushing the work right along. The excavations for the cellar and foundations are now nearly completed. Billy Wonder, the trotter, was at New Ross last week, and took ; first second money, SOS, in another. He is at Lebanon, Boone county, this week.
Elder. E. A. Pardee of Monticello, District Evanglist, will preach in the Christian church next Saturday evening* and also Sunday morning and evening. At Culp school house, Barkley tp. Monday and Tuesday evehings.
Nest Saturday, is the monthly payday for the Rensselaer Building & Loan Association. The monthly meeting of the directors, for the sale of loans will be held Wednesday, Sept. 5. Joseph Osborne, senior partner in the Economy Store Company, is now recreating for his health, with a hunting party, in the Black Hills. He is suffering from the effects of an attack of malarial fever. ■ . N

Bel ley, and unanimously voted to that effect at the late quarterly conference. Charley Owens, a bright and oßecßeht nine-year old boy from the Cincinnati Children's Home, is still staying with Mrs. M. E. Baylor, without a permanent, settlement. Any parties wishing to; take a good boy into their family, I would do well to try Charley. "H E' . -vi Eight stalwart young Indians | got off the train yesterday forenoon, and were conducted at.onoe to the Catholic farm. They are the first detachment of students for the Indian school, when it shall be completed. They will assist in the work of the place, in the meantime. • Trustee Jackson Freeland, of Nffwton tp., has had the misfortune to lose one of his two months old twin boys. French and Eva Earle French, at the Opera House, tonight and tomorrow night. Their last appearance.
The Free Will Society have some vety nicely made comforts for sale. For particulars call on Mrs. W. D. -Robinson, President, or Mrs. J. W. Morris, Vice-Presi-dent; Bro. McEwen accompanied his sister, Miss Elizabeth, to Chicago Tuesday, from whence she departed for Denver Colorado, to make her home with her sister, Mrs. Bel ford. Chamberlain <jk Zoll have the contract for building ,an immense barn at the Catholic Indian school. Its dimensions are to be 84 by 36 feet and 18 feet to the eaves. Its cost will be about $2,000. The construction of the building will i be lushed right along.
Arthur W-.. Cole, formerly of Rensselaer, and one of the very few efficient mail agents on the L., N. A.-& C. Railway, was bounced from his position, last week, because his place was wanted by a Democrat, lie has been on the route about six years. ‘The time at which we go to press this week, Wednesday afternoon, is early to speak with cer-' tainty regarding the prospects of the county fair, now in progress. The exhibit of stock is very large, every stall being taken, and all other departments will probably be, at least farely well represented. Marshal Simpson impounded seven cows. Saturday night and five more Sunday night, It cost the owners one dollar for each cow, to get them out of the pound. This may seem pretty tough upon the owiieis of the cows, and especially if they are poor people, but the cow ordinance is a necessity and the general good of the community demands its rigid enforcement. Keep the cows up, at night.
; —The ball game, on last Friday afternoon between the Harrison <\c Morton and the Cleveland & Thurman nines, was a well played game, and witnessed by a large concourse of people. It was well played but the Republican boys, out of the tenderness of their hearts, (or perhaps hands) knowing that the poor fellows would not get any other consolation opt of the campaign, kindly allowed the Democratic boys- to take the game. The score stood 11 to ,8. Mrs. Judge W, D. Lee and daughter Maggie, of Las Vegas, New Mexico, are tlio guests oi Mrs. W. S. Stockton.
