About the New Church.
Dr. J. L. Smith, the venerable and eloquent Presiding Elder, came down from Valparaiso last Friday, to meet with the trustees of the M E. chmch, and inquire into the prospects for the new building. He found everything progressing so satisfactorily under Rev. Pelley’s judicious and energetic management, that in effect, he only said “go in boys you’ll get there,” and went home, again." The prospects are indeed very flattering, and it may now be set down as a foregone conclusion that the long felt want, of a handsome and commodious place of worship for the Methodist congregation of Rensselaer, will soon be realized. The amount now subscribed is in the neighborhood of $3,600, and all by responsible parties. This does not include the money for the lot, which lias been secured independently.. With such an amount already subscribed, it is evident that the w hole amount needed for the erection and completion of a handsome and modern brick edifice can easily be secured. The building which is in contemplation wiU be an ornament to'the town, will have all the modern improvements, will be large enough for all practical purposes and will be built to last. Its cost will not be less than $5,000. It will be situated on one of the Barkley estate lots.
