Dowell Fired Out.
G. W. Dowell, tke insurance agent and notorious character generally,' of Francesviile, was compelled to leave that village, lastjweek by the indignant citizens. The New Era-relates the incident, as follows: “Early Tuesday morning G. W. Dowell was given notice to “skip” the town within 24 hours. He paid no heed to the warning and Wednesday night he was serenaded with firearms, but doing no damage, though from the looks of the windows it is evident that the gunners meant business. On Thursday he left. For a long time Dowell has been a it was felt that one day Ijk must leave. He seemed endowed with a wonderful gift of calling men he disliked all the dirty names illegal behind their backs. But he went too far with his vile tongue and had to leave. “’Tis sad to leave you thus, dear,” but, hpwßomever. An anonymous letter to the worthy P. M. was the immediate cause of the action of the citizens in ordering him to leave, and failure 011 his part to obey we presume led to the shooting. The letter was of a slanderous nature and cast insinuations and made assertions- against the characters of some of our best citizens. It is the general belief that the letter eminated from Dowell.”
