A Human Skeleton.
Monday morning, while some men were digging out sand in the open court, or enclosed space inside the new Indian School building, they unearthed a human skeleton. It was not more than a foot beneath the surface, and if the body to which it once belonged was originally buried deeper, the sand above it has long been removed. The skeleton evidently is that of a medium sized adult; and is supposed to be that of an Indian; but whether of a male or a female, the skeleton is too much broken and decomposed |[to determine. The bones were much broken iu pieces when found/ and in the process of removing they were broken much more. From the completeness and soundness of the teeth it Sis surmised that the skeleton is that of a person not
greatly advanced in years. From the position of the skeleton, it is evident that the body was buried, face up, with the knees drawn up. There was nothing found with the skeleton to indicate that the body had ever been enclosed in a coffin, except that under a portion of the back, was found soine charred and blackened substance which looks as though it might have once been a piece of wood v ' The place where the bones were found is not more than 20 feet from the site of an old dwelling house, which was torn down to make room for the building now iu process of erection. A portion of the bones hava been left at The Re publican office, where they are open to the inspection of the public.
