A NEW COUNTY ASYLUM. Tfie report of the Grand Jury of the March term showing that more commodious buildings are greatly needed at the poor farm, was taken up, and the subject fully investigated, with the result that the Auditor was directed to advertise for plans and specifications for a brick building, with stone foundations and basement walls. Building to be two stories above basement, to contain about 10 rooms on each floor, and to be heated with a hot air furnace. Building to be plain and substantial. The plans are to be submitted to a special term held on the 26th of June.
ROADS AND BRIDGES. The auditor was ordered to draw his warrant in favor of J. vV. Powell for 8737.90 in full payment for work done on the grade at Burk’s .bridge, to June 2, 1888. D. H. Yeoman, G. W. Burk and M. H. Hemphill, viewers appointed in March, reported that the road in Union tp., petitioned for by Michael SHuhz, would not be of public utility, and the cause was dismissed. The report of S. C. Hammond, Wm. M. Hoover aud J. B. Sparling, viewers in the Wolff road case, Milroy tp., was to the effect that the road was of public utility and that they had assessed no damages. The road is declared a public highway. On petition of Wm. D. Meyers and 19 others, viewers were appointed for a proposed highway in Wheatfield tp., beginning at the south-east corner of section 36, tp. 32, and running west two miles. Andrew Boston, Shadrech F. Brown and Michael Zich, are the viewers, and August 27 the day appointed for the work. In the case of the big highway Setitioned for in Wheatfield tp., y Selwin Rich and others, the viewers appointed in March, Win. D. Meyers, Win. Hoile and Wm. M. Kennedy reported that the road would not be of public utility, especially considering the great cost of constructing, the route being through low and soft marshes. The cause was dismissed. M. P. Comer and 18 others petitioned for a road in Union tp., to begin at the south-west corner of section 11, tp. 30 and to»run thence north one mile. John English, Wallace Munay and Jas. W. Cpmer, N. M. Grant and Geo. Markin are to view another proposed highway in Keener, to begin at se corner of the ne quarter of sec. 22, tp, 31, running north 14 miles and east 1 mile. Agustus Siimion and others ask for a road in Wheatfield, beginning at the sw corner of sec. 19,tp. 32, artl running east six miles. Wm. Hoile, Wm. D. Meyew and Jos. Tanner, viewers. Daniel W. Mellon and others want a road in Union, to begin at the east end of Second street, in Fair Oaks, running east about { mile, north { mile and east again 4 miles. Jacob Wilcox, Prior Rowen and Jasper Kenton, viewers. The viewers in all the foregoing cases are to do their work on Monday, August 27. Fifty dollars was appropriated to" make the grade at the range line road, ovei the Big Slough. A contract was made with the Wrought Iron Bridge Co., of Canton, 0,, for a bridge over Carpenter’s creek, in Carpenter tp., between sections 13 and 24. The total cost including iron substructure, is to be $999, of which sum Carpenter tp., is to pay $75. The bridge to be completed by Aug. 2nd. W. A.. Bbadifer js agent of the board to superintend the work. The same company also has the contract, at the same price, for a bridge over the Pinkamink, at Moor's crossing, on the line between Barkley and Hanging Grove tps. These townships pay $75 of the cost of the bridge. J. C. Gwin, agent. Bridge to be completed by August Ist. The same company is also contracted with for a bridge in Milroy tp., over the Big Slough, about a mile south of the Crockett cemetery.
