Rensselaer Republican, Volume 20, Number 39, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 31 May 1888 — An Engine House and Town Hail. [ARTICLE]
An Engine House and Town Hail.
The town is now provided with an excellent fire engine house, and as soon as it can be fitted up, will have a permanent room in which RfeToW'^ jngs. The building and lot on Van Rensselaer street, half a block south of McCoy’s bank, belonging to Allen Catt, has been purchased for $940 cash. The lot is 30 by 150 feet and worth probably 8450 or 8500. The building is not more than five or six years old and cost about 8800. The lower story is amply large to shelter the fire engine and the hook and ladder truck, while the upper story can be utilized for a town council room. Mr. A. Thompson, president of the town board, lias advanced themoney for the building, the town not being in condition just at present to pay for it. We regard the acquisition of this building and lot a very fortunate thing for the' town: It is cheap in price, large and convenient enough for all purposes, and its location all that could be desired.
