The National Republican League at Washington, Wednesday night, adopted the defence of the party and arraignment of Voorhees in the Senate,and proposing to tender him a public recaption in token of their appreciation of his Course. . The choice for VicePresident is divided between Gray, Black and Stevenion, with a majority for Gray. The Republican national delegates from California selected at Sacramento, Tuesday night, are unpledged. The platform eulogizes Stanford, denounces the Chinese laws ano treaties, favors protection and the Senate silver legislation, and denounces the Mills bill and the President’s message. Public indignation at Lebanon, Tenn., was roused to each a pitch by the speech of Senator Ingalls on Tuesday that late Thursday night izens assembled, placed an effigy of the Kamas Senator in a wagon, marched through the principal streets of the town into the suburbs, and there burned the figure. The Illinois State Republican Convention met at Springfield, Wednesday, and nominated Joseph ArFifer for Governor, L. B. Ray for Lieutenant Governor, L N. Pew son for Secretaiy of State, and a foil State ticket. Hon. Walter Q. Gresham was indorsed for President, and the delegates were recommended to vote for him. The platform condemns the Democratic party as an “organization Lr official spoils, which has nnblushingly violated all its reformatory promises,” etc. The fight between Riddleberger and Mahone relative to Virginia politics is*, getting very hot. Riddleberger has issued a circular denouncing the action of Mahone in removing the Chairman of the Republican Committee in Riddleberger’s county, through a midnight order, saying: -‘On Monday I shall ask the people of Shenandoah to hear me on thd issues of the canvas—it will then be daylight. Only cowards and assassins make publications at midnight/’— The following is the Illinois Republican tariff declaration: “The Republican party is in favor of the maintenance of such tariffas will guarantee the American laborer ana American manufacturer against the pauper labor of the old world. It pelieves in the development of its home industries by all rational means.” An attempt was made to get the convention to adopt a resolution favoring the submission of a pronibition amendment to the people, but it failed of passage. The Pennsylvania Prohibitionists met at Harrisburg on the 2d. The platfojm pledges the party to total prohibition by constitutional amendment; opposes all license By stems; demands the repeal of the international revenue laws; favors the election of President, Vice President and Senators by a dire t vote of the people;favors a general arbitration law; favors a protective tariff; declares for woman suffrage, beside s making a number of other declarat ors of minor importance. ’ - “~ The Progressive Labor party is dead. The County General Committee hare adopted a res dution that, ip consequence of the late desertion of the late leader, Henry George, the mission of the party he s.been accomplished and its fuither existence is not justifiable at the present time, when true labor organizations are threatened with destruction by organized capital. Workmen who consider an independent political movement a necessity are recommended to join the Socialistic Labor party. It has been generally thought that all the tea used here came from China, but recent statistics have proved that China furnishes only one-third of the amount. The rest comes from India.
