A Bad AfTair at Reynolds.
On Tuesday evening of last week, the little town of Reynolds, in White county, was the scene of a startling incident, and which only barely missed being a fatal tragedy. A young man named Ed Chamberlain, son of Henry Chamberlain, a H r ery respectable man who lives three miles east of Reynolds, shot and severely wounded Miss Ida Wittenburg, a young lady of about eighteen years of age. Young Chamberlain had been paying court to the girl for sometime, but without much apparent success, and on Tuesday she had gone out in company with another young man, John Murray, by name. They separated at the j gate’and Ida, when about entering J the house by the back door, was seized by Chamberlain and shot in the head. Murray heard the shot and the girl’s screams and ran back. Chamberlain fired one shot at Murray and tied. The bullet which struck Miss Wittenburg luckily did not strike a fatal place but took effect in her jaw. The 1 wound is not fatal but will disfigure the young lady, for life. Chamberlain gave himself up to the authorities and was released, on bail. He lias always borne a good - reputation, and his act can not lie accounted for except upon the grounds of insane jealousy. Ho is a nephew 61 Mr. John Chamberlain, a well known and estimable citizen of Rensselaer.
