A dispatch from Washington says: Senator Sherman’s managers have made a careful canvass in every section of the country, rspecially of the South, and are pretty will enabled to make an approximation of the strength the Senator is like’y to have in the convention on the first ballot. A number of Senator Sherman’s most effective 'friends' were in consultation, Friday, to count noses. Tney have figured in all of the Btates and Territories, and make the Senator’s approximate strength at this time 312, with 411 votes necessary to a choice. They feel a good deal encouraged over the action taken this week by the Ohio Repnbl can Convention at Dayton and are somewhat jubilant at the outlook. It is understood that there will be a conference held in this city soon of the principal workers for Senator Sherman throughout the country, and that an organization will be formed tot. the most effective work, such as war conducted in the last campaign for Mr. Blaine. Senator Sherman’s friends say they are going info the convention with a following that will stand solidly to their man as long as there is the slighest hope of his nomination, and that he will have by far the greatest strength he has ever bad in a convention.
