The Ohio Supreme Court has declared unconstitutional the law imprisoning for life as an habitual criminal a man convicted of thiea separate successive crimes. At Springfield, Mo., Sunday, a sensation was cansed by the arrest of Samuel Whitney, who arrived there two years ago, and by his condnct made himself one of the most respected of citizens. He proves to be William Spurgeon, a defanlting clerk of a private bank in Baltimore. John Bogard, aged sixteen, pleaded guilty, Yueed.y, at Kansas City, to murder in the first degree, and waa sentenced to hang. Bogard held the bauds of James Weir, at Independence, Mo., last January, while Charles E. Meyers struck him on the head, killing him. Meyers was tried last week, convicted fund sentenced to hang, Bogard is the youngest person ever sentenced to hang in Missouri. George Trippett, a colored policeman, arrested Silas Porter, white, in Texarkana, Texes. Porter was re leased on bond, and immediately commenced a search for Trippett. Finding him he fired four shots without killing hi n. The negro fled to the Arkansas side of the city. The. whole negro population turned ont and commenced a wholesale purchase of revolvers.
