Ireland’s Straggle.

Globe-Democrat. Yes; the struggle in Ireland at present is a desperate one, and if the Tory Government can continue in office two years more the National League will be broken up. The most abject poverty and distress prevades all over Ireland and the spirit of the people ip almost broken. I do not think the: ?Tories would hesitate to give home-rule to Ireland if that was all that it involved; but they fear that it is the first blow to landlordism in Great Britain. Thej know that home-rule is preliminary to the nationalization of the land in Ireland which will be followed by a demand for the same by the people of England. The question of the nationalization of the land has, at the request of Parnell, been kept in the background, fearing that should it become identified with home-rule it would alienate a large portion of the Liberal party.
