The Fire Engine Accepted.

- The-new- clieinical fire engine was tested, Tuesday, and, the test proving satisfactory to the members of the Town Boefd, it was accepted. The first test was on' a small board shanty erected for ths -purpose,-7-T-ha-whole inside, oi tho structure was saturated with coaloil and then fired. It m-ide an immense blase, but the stream from the liDse of the engine extinguished it almost immediately. Not ijeing satisfied with the magnitude of this test, the Board | bought, for a small sum, an old buildimfi BoElh-of the <lepoL r Aud fired that fora test) It’ was~djy and inflammable! indsaturate 1 witii oil and burned fiercely,, but the Lindgren 'ex-ting-risk wl the flam -s, in she-rb meter. It. was fired a secondtime with a similar result. Th re is a great disparily of. opinions among our'citizens, in regard to the merits of this machine, and as to the wisdom of its pnr.ch .se; but we b •lieve that it w-tl I-I I.i.rly or quite as efficient as au erdimiry hand, engine, ann- has the greit a‘.lvantage over (he former that it cab be used in any pa'b of U>wn, wlrieh the water engine could not fc-r want of water. It can not cope with a fire in a. large building, iindcr full headway, of course; nor . can any other machine which does town is ready to invest in fire engiiifts, just at pii sent. A fire company will be organiz- . cd at once and procure—a good ho k and ladder truck. This can only ba done, at present at least, TfififilZk LIX raising a considerable part of its cost by 'popular "'subscription.
