Death of Henry Barkley.
The long sickness of Henry Barkley ended in his death, last Saturday night, at his residence in Barkley township. The funeral was held Monday, in Barkley church, near his late residence. It, was, undoubtedly, the largest country funeral ever held in the county. Tile church was crowded to its fullest capacity and scores of people remained outside, unable to obtain admittance. The funeral was conducted by Prairie Lodge, F. & A. M., of Rensselaer, df which the deceased was an honored member, of long standing. The number from Rensselaer, in attendance at the funeral, was very large, including most of the members of the Masonic and Eastern Star Lodges. The Cornet Band was also present Rev. K.,J. Duncan preached the funeral sermon. Mr. Barkley was one of our oldest settlers, having come to this county in 1837. Barkley township was so named in honor of his father. t Mr. Barkley has long been a prominent citizen; and has filled many publie positions, including the office of county auditor, for one term. His age was was a little more than 58 years. His surviving family consists of a widow and two , ( sons. He was very prosperous, financially, and died in affluent circumstances. Personally he was a'just and upright man, and possessed the respect and esteem of all who knew him.
