Secretary Lamar’s report begins with a statement concernihg the public lands, in which it is stated that the quantity of land restored to the public domain since March 4, 1886,18 81.824,482 acres were disposed of, the total receipts of the land department being $12,250,000. The total number of entries and filings made during the year was 248,178, covering 88 387,939 acres.
