THE CONTRACT CLOSED.

And the Site Selected. The directors of the Gas and Oil company closed up a contract, for .boring an experimental well, last Saturday morning, with Geo. Givins, who bored the wells' in Monticello and Remington. Ho is to bore as deep as the directors desire, and to be paid $1.50 per foot, for the depth actually bored, wheihor it be nine-hundred w ! nine thousand feet. lie is to case j tho well without extra pay, and if gas or oil is found in paying quantities he is to leave the casing t « M ' jin the well but if not he has the privilege of removing the casing. The boring is to begin very shortly,, as soon as a drilling outfit can be got from Walton, in Cass county. The outfit at Remington is to remain there for the preterit, as Treat Durand, of that place is having a well bored on his farm, near that town, not being satisfied with the result of the first boring. Saturday evening the directors, met again and decided upon a site for the wn?ll. A number of favorable propositions were received, but the decision was in favor of the site offered by Gen. Van Rensselaer. He offers a lot 100 by 150 feet on the east side of Van Rensselaer street, bordering on Makemself ditch, and nearly opposite 11. W. Porter’s residence.
