Progress of the Gas and Oil Compauy.

' The directors of the gAs and oil company, at their meeting last week, elected Judge Hammond president of the company; A. Jjeopold, vice president, Win, A. i' Rinehart secretary and E- L. Hollingsworth treasurer. A committee was appointed to make a contract for having the well bored; and another committee appointed to select a location for the’ well. The last mentioned committee has looked over the ground considerable and Ims received several very liberal oilers of boring sites. Gen. Van Rensselaer offers 100 by 150/ feeton Make-emself, with the provision that if gas or oil is found in paying quantities the company shall have an absolute deed for the lot, and if a good well of water the town shall > have it. S. P. Thompson offers an acre of ground near the railroad on substantially the same conditions as go with Van Rensselaer’s offer. Mr. A. Leopold offers severe! lots, in Leopold’s addition, on very similar conditions except that if water but no oil or gas is found, the town can have the well by paying a reasonable, specified sum for the lot.
