Many Destructive Fires.
The unparalleled drouth has already resulted in several, destructive fires in different parts of the county and unless rain comes many others are likely to occur. In Barkley township, last Saturday, a, fire started on Frank Moore’s place and burned about 75 tons of hay, in the stuck, the property of himself and G. H. Brown, of Rensselaer, and his sou of the same name, in Barkley. About a mile of fence, belonging to the same parlies, was also destroyed. The same fire also burned a lot of wheat ip the,,stack, supposed to be about 300 bushels, the joint property of G. H. Brown, Jr , and S M. Quick. . In Keener township, a vast extent of uncut hay has been burned. including nearly the whole of that on the school section, which was the property of R. W. Marshall. The Black Marsh, in that township, which was never dry before, has now burned over. In Union township extensive fires have prevailed wince last Saturday. Vast quantities of uncut hay hiis been burned over and also much liayythat was in the stack. R. B. Mollit lost 60 tons in the stack and perhaps an equal amount that was in the shock or uncut. He also-lost a new wagon and a rake. Sheriff Yeoman also lost 15.0 r 20 tons that was stacked and only great exertions prevented a much greater loss, He also lost many acres that was not cut. Presbyterian Notes. Ladies Industrial Society meets Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Moss. Sunday, Aug. 7, Mrs. Sherwood will sing at the regular morning and evening service. Rev. K. J. Duncan will leave Aug, 9, for' a vacation of three weeks. Mr. Duncan has been reengaged to occupy the. pulpit until April, 1888, at which .time he will graduate from the McCormick Theological Seminary.
