The Assessinent of the Rallroads.

The State Board of Equalization completed its labors last Thursday, after a long session. Assessing the railroads has been the principal work of the Board. The total length of main tracks of all the railroads in the state is~ 5,679 miles. The total assessed valuation of the railroads, including side tracks rolling stock, «fcc,is $62,092,439. The increase in mileage over last year is 119 miles. The increase in assessment is near seven millions dollars. Lake county has 213 miles of road, which is more than any other county in the state. Laporte comes second with 209 miles and Marion third with 163. Switzerland, Union, Perry and Brown have no railroads at all, and wealthy LaGrange has only 16 miles. The assessed value of Lake county roads is $3,387,003, and the other counties mentioned are about in proportion.. Jasper county has nearly 74 miles of main track, and a total assessed railroad valuation of SSOB, 414. The increase in mileage in the county oyer last year is, 23 miles ami in assessed valuatrorr $283,908. The assessment per mile on the four roads in Jasper county is, on the Chicago, St. Louis & Pitsburg $10,000; an increase of $1,200 per mile over last year. On the L. N.
