The Valuation of Personal Property.
The annexe} table shows the valuation of personal property in the several towns aud toivnshipsof - the county, ns re tarn <1 by the assessors, and ratified- by the Board of Equalization; and also the increase or decrease, as the ease may be, over the valuation of last year: Town orTp; V*l.l*l7. lncrea'se. The total net increase, is $55,542. The figures showing increase or decrease of Valuation are some of them rather surprising, to say the least. It is hard to understand, for instance, why the value of personal property in Union township, should increase over 40 per cent, and in Newton 30 per cent,, in the past year, while in other townships, as in Hanging Grove, there is a d- creaseof about 20 per com.
