A Very Misterlous Stream.

The following description at r\ mysterious underground river m the northern part of this county, lately appeared in one of the Ind, ianapolis papers, and is now ia general circulation. The description at first thought suggests the idea that perhaps Joe Mulhatton, the champion liar of all America, had given us a visit, but upon, reflection we are disposed to believe that one of our more than usually gifted local talent is responsible for the story which is here given : “There is considerable exeitemen fc among the inhabitants of Jasper county over the discovery of what is supposed to be an underground river. About two years since several head of cattle were lost in n. current that ran under ground toward the Kankakee, and now the same current is lowering the w’aters iu the adjoining swamps, which are known to hunters and trappers to be nothing more than wide areas of floating sod.- A trapper reports that the water on the Kankakee marsh has raised several feet, the result of the flow from the region about McCune’s settlement, near which the rush-” ing waters make a lond noise. Many are preparing to leave for higher ground.”
