The joint institute at Medaryville, on last Saturday, was a success. Hess & Robinson brought 114 head of cattle from the eastern counties, during last week. idessrs. George and James Antrim, i-.f Rensselaer, . spent last Sunday with friends in Gillam. Last week Robert Wilson and Susan Nash were married by the venerable Judge of Medaryville. G.’W. C. T. Miller,'of Mishawaka, Ind., visited the G. T. Lodge, No. 36, a t Independence, last Saturday night and lectured in the interest of the <;>? der at the the church on Monday night. On last Saturday night the poultry establishment in White' Post Id., in Pulaski county, belonging to John Meeks, took fire and the entire building, with a §6OO incubator, SSOO worth of brooders, household and kitchen furniture and considerable poultry, were consumed. The insurance is sl, 100 but will not nearly cover the loss. “ • i U See. WEST JORDAN ITEMS. " No. 4 school will close March 13th. James Wenrick is moving to. Starke county. Mrs. E. R. Ward, who went to Kansas. Trustee Welsh and Win. Washbum have just returned from the north with a nice bunch of cattle. The school at No. 5 will close about tlie 15th of -April, for two weeks, then G. W. Ingram will teach a May term. Union school district, in Jordan, is a very lively place. Sabbath school-every Sunday morning,' preaching every Sunday evening, prayer meeting every Welmesday and Saturday nights, literary every two weeks, on Friday, evening and temperance meetings often. A number of farmers from Jordan and Carpenter townships met with a number df Newton county farmers, at Goodland, on the 19th inst, and organized a farmers’ alto be known as the Goodland Farmers’ Alliance.
