Galbraith, a large and vigorous man, severely thrashed young Halstead on the night of Feb. 4th, while the latter was upon his way home from a spelling school. The provocation for the assault was a whipping given to an eleven year old sister of Galbraith, by Halstead, in his capacity of teacher, and which whipping Galbraith and his friends claimed to have been altogether too severe. J. W. Douthit prosecuted the ease and Dr. Bowinau, of Blackford, defended. After hearing the evidence and arguments of counsel, the justice assessed a fine of S2O and costs, amounting in all to $35.25 upon Galbraith.
