HANGING GROVE AND VICINITY. The roods are getting muddy. ‘ Misses Celia Childers and Lou iherton spent a few days at town last week. Aunt Jane Lefler is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Bruce, in Rpnsse. laer, this week. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnson, of Winamnc, are visiting friends and relatives here thisweek. The teachers of H. G. held their last township institute for the year, Saturday, Feb. 5,1887. The young folks of Pleasant Ridge enjoyed a surprise party at Mr. Walter Porter’s, Saturday evening. The meetings in the church at Pleasant Ridge are in good progress. There have been five joiners. May they ever be faithful is the wish cf their many friends. Reporter.
FROM WHEATIIELD. Business of the town is lively. James Melset ami his sister are visiting relatives at Rose Lawn. Mrs. Girdou Henrickson is slowly recovering from a long sick spell. Joint institute of Kankakee and Wheatfiejd townships is to he held at the M'heatfield school house on Saturday, Feb. 12. S. F. Brown ami wife, of Walker tp , were in town Friday. They have just returned from Plaiio, 11l ~ where they have been visiting " relatives.Mr. Horton, dentist of Rensselaer, made a visit to Whentfteld last week. He was in town part of*two days, being very busy while here. Schools of the township are progressing finely and we are sorry to learn that on account of a limited amount of school funds that the school terms will soon expire. Adrift.
REMINGTON ITEMS. Justice Tharp is suffering from a stubborn attack of pneumonia. “Mine host” of the Hart house is recovering from an attack of lung fever. Mrs. Sarah Eckels, vvho has been confined to her bed for more than three months, is still unable to leave it . 1 Saylor, tli6 singer, will assist Rev. E. B. Woodson with the series of meetings jjow being held in the M. E. Church. Miss Jessie Draper, Who came home a week ago, .to recuperate, returned to her school in Milroy township, last Monday. The city fathers at their last meeting set aside two lots in the cemetery for each church in tlie town.. A most kindly and com-

Fred Hoover, will emigrate-to Kansas this week, taking with him his family and worldly possessions with the intention of making that state his home. •--•--- The memorial* windows to be pieced in the Presbyterian church in memory of Rev. Rev. J. L. Smith,- D !>., conducted quarterly meeting services here on Saturday and Sunday last, in a very impressive manner, preaching with the clearness and vigor for which he is famed. Mr. and Mrs. Will Shepherd, after a sojourn of about a year in Lafayette, have returned to thi place. Their oldest son, Master Bert, is a musical prodegy, play- J ing the most difficult airs on pianoTj organ and Holm, We predict for j the lad a most brilliant future. There is a great amount of sickness here, especially among children, bat the majority of the cases are in a fair way to recover, Orrin Landon, Morris Peck, Ethel Harlacker and Claude Townsend are among the number of children who have been most seriously ill Mr. John Burling, whose sickness was mentioned in a previous

His younger brother who suffered the loss of three fingers on the same day that Mr. Mowrer was hurt, o&iue very nearly meeting death in the same manner, one night last, week. Though very weak and feeble from loss of blood, - the prompt and. skillful attention of two phj sicians placed him out ot danger. The many friends of Mrs. Jas. I Thompson, of Kentland, will regret to hear that her health has failed to such an extent, that fears are entertained that she will not long survive, A severe attack of hemorrhage of the lungs a week or two since left her in a debilitated condition. Owing to her sickness,' it was found necessary to procure a new management fortho hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harlacker assumed control ot it Monday. You can make up your minds to the fact that Remington does not intend to be left ou,t ii> the cold. She intends to keep right up with the procession. She produces the best scholars, the prettiest girls, the most trustworthy officers and the best corn crops that are to be found anywhere, and now, not to be left in the rear, behold our gas well. It is an assured fact and in the bear future we expect to snap our tingers at coal monopolies and oil companies, and keep the vast amounts of money that are sent out for coal and oil right at home. If the flow is equal to the expectations of those who have a right to form an intellgent opinion, the question of cheap fuel and light will soon be settled. Remingtonian.

They say work will begin in April. We hope this information is reliable. It would be a great aid to Rochester, as it would be the eastern terminus and be sure of the shops. —Rochester Tribune .
Lafayette Leader: A singular fatality seemed to follow a quartette of brakemen on the L., N. A. &C. Ry., recently. One of them had his hand pinched while coupling a car; he laid off. His substitute had his hand caught in the same way, and lie laid off. No. 3 shared a like misfortune, incapacitating him. Then came No. 4, and he too was caught, and thus it was that at one time “there were four brakemen with their hands in slings, all caught in the same way.
