George Nicholson, lately a resident of Carpenter tp., has just opened a meat shop in the room occupied for the same business, last winter, by C, C. Sigler. As will be seen from the reports of our Wheatfield and Dunnville correspondents, the extension of the C. & I. C. railroad is nearly completed.

In spite of the very great num, ber of new dwelling houses that have been erected in Rensselaer during the last five or six years, there is now scarcely a vacant house, of any kind, to, be found in the place- —— The new derrick for the windmill at the public well is 60 feet high, 15 feet higher than the old one. It cost $75 and was paid for by the town, but with the understanding, as we are informed, that the county will bear half the expense.

Our enterprising merchants have made a general raid upon the paper this week, and have pretty nearly swamped us with display “ads” and pay locals, •‘But things must always be that way Before each Christmas Holiday.”

A number of the friends and neighbors of Mrs. Fannie Ham, who lives in Thompson’s addition, did a kind and commendable act last week, by contributing the money to pay for the material for a wood house, and meeting at her house and erecting the same.

Dr. Quivey, the dentist, met with a serious misfortune one day last week. In some manner, unknown to himself, the drum, or tympanum of one of his ears was ruptured. The injury not only causes great pain and inconvenience, but will probably result in greatly impairing the hearing of the injured ear.

The drawing of N. Warner & Sons’ breech loading shot gun took place last Monday. The envelope containing the lucky number was opened by Mr. Vai Seib, and it was found that Daniel Stutzman, who lives near Surrey, was the lucky man. Abraham L. Havens, son of Father Geo. Havens’ has just bought Chas. Roberts’ blacksmith shop, on Front street, and will, when the present lease-to L. C. Giant has expired, occupy the same as a blacksmith and general repair shop.
