FROM FAIR OAKS. Ben McColly has quit clerking for T. J. Mallatt, to collect taxes. Mrs. Bosetta Sloniker, of Muncie, is visiting friends in Fair Oaks, an 4 will return home soon. ■. Andy Mullen, who, for years has had charge of the telegraph office at this place, left this morning for Council Bluffs. He leaves many friends: Sheriff Yeoman passed through town on his way to Kentland and created quite an excitement to-day. There are a few persons here that justly fear the sight of our county sheriff. The contractors and foremen on the railroad complain that the saloon keepers of this place keep their men all drunk and they can’t get their men to work. I don’t know whose fault it is, but I do know that there are from two to ten drunks every day, and more on Sunday. Long Samuel.

Mr. Joseph White , cut a bee tree last week and saved a tubfull of rice honey, also found out the business qualities of the little animals. John W. Tanner went to Chicago last week. Remember nexf trip, John, that‘'Nick” gets up at all times of the night to sell tickets Castlin & White hpve shipped 5,000 pounds of the nicest grapes that ever grew out of ground, and they’ grew in our good-for-nothing soil. Don’t let anyone be caught running our country down again. R. W. Marshall, Grov Smith, Dr. Robbins and Mr,, Brochett started last Thursday morning to join their old regiment, the 100th Ills., in reunion at Joliet, 111. . KANKAKEE TOWNSHIP, Wm. W. Hinshaw is going to Porter county next week, to build a house. Milton P. White has gone to Hendricks county, to attend school. These cool nights warn us that our next visitor will be Jack Frost. The crops are all out of his way in Kankakee. —-* Hon. I. D. Dunn has finished his hay harvest. - 200 to 1,500 tons of first class hay in the stack and barns. Pay day the 15th on the C. & I. C. R.’R. Money was plenty and all parties happy. Some of the boys got snakes in their boots. We had a heavy rain, hail and wind storm last Thursday, doing much damage to hay stacks by blowing them down. 3 An accident occurred last Sunday night on tlie l. 1.1. B. 8., between Dunnville and San Pierre. The San Pierre hand-car and Dunnville Speeder collided and, ditched the passengers. No serious damage done, but several slight wounds. Cause oi accident, too much steam and no headlight.
