Still a Mystery.
Lafayette Sunday Tinies. -A* month has come and pone since Miss Luclla Mabbitt so mysteriously disappeared from her home in Carroll county, and yet no tidings have been ■ received that could indicate whether she is dead or alive. If living, her footsteps in the flight have been so well covered as to baffle all human skill in tracing her. If dead, her remains have been so carefully concealed as to defy all human scrutiny. As time passes the interest in the mystery increases rather than diminishes. All sorts of rumors and conjectures are alloat, but the bare facts made known on the 7th of August are alone corroborated. The identification of the torn and bloody portions of Miss Manbitt’s clothing found near Forest is beyond question. But the belief is gaining ground that this was a ruse resorted to on the part of Green, her supposed abductor, to delude the oflieers and gain time. One of two conclusions can safely be arrived at—either Amer Green is the most diabolical, iniernal scoundrel or the mostcfuel x okcr that Indiana ever produced ”
The Inter-State Industrial Exposition of Chicago.
Is now open for its Fourteenth Consecutive Annual Exhibition. Like even other good thing in the growing West, it is larger, better and more important in its main features than any which have preceded it. The display of processes of manufacture. including two exhibits of silk looms in operation, and many other things of attractive novelty in mechanism, has never been surpassed. The Art Halls aie tilled with chokgc xamples fresh from the studios of hundred and twenty-live prominent American artists. The specimen of the elephas prim genius or “hairy elephant.” just added and mounted, was discovered in Spokane Co., Washington Territory, and has no rival in any of the great inns earns of Europe unless it may be one in Su Petersburg produced many year* ago in Siberia. The Departments of furniture, household decoration, personal ornaments and Textile fabrics are complete ami tilled with all the novelties known to the several industries they represent. It has never been the purpose of this organization to simply amuse the public or to enrich its stockholders, but rather to educate and inform those who desire to keep abreast of .the progress of the world in all the grgALlilies q: human activity. In 1885 the average daily paid attendance for forty days was 8,463. This year it promises to be even largti and the exhibition will certainly well pay all who visit it.
