The Finding of Mrs. Harley.
tolplii Journal. The remains pt Mrs. Kate Harley were found yesterday, Jane 8. between three and four o’clock in (he afternoon, by Mr. George P. Harley and young Mr. Ed Ballard, near the water’s edge on the west bank of tlie Wabash river, near ibis city, and nearly opposite, but a little above where Deer Creek .empties into the river, and about .one mile below the Iron bridge that spans the Wabash river at
Pittsburg, and where they are. supposed to have lain buried in the sand and water since the day she left her home,.March 18,1885, ; and where too, within a very few rods, was found but a short time after her disappearance, a hair switch which was supposed at the time, to have belonged to the deceased. The sppt where the remains were found had been searched over and over, but the body having been imbedded and cover- . ed over with sand and there being nothing to indicate its presence, it has remained there until discovered as above stated. ... .
Mr. Harley and Mr. Ballard started yesterday afternoon to take another look along the river, and when at this point noticed a skull partially covered with sand. Tpon examination they found that they had made a discovery that would in all probability prove to be what they were seeking after, and went to work and exhumed the body, and were rewarded by finding the remains of the long lost and much Bought for missing lady. Mr. Charles Harley, Dr. Hamsher and Coroner Shultz were immediately sent for, and from tire clothing that still remained on the body, together with a breast pin and tlie gold filling in the teeth, the Coroner and friends were enabled to fully identify the remains as being those of Mrs. Harley. The remains were brought to the city and were tenderly cared for, and with appropriate ceremonies will ba laid to rest in the family burying ground at tlie Odd Fellows Cemetery.
