Makeever’s Majestic Monument.
Mr. John MaT<eever has just awarded to S tinespring & Rockwood. of Chaqfipey, the contract for erecting iti Weston cemetery what will be, when completed, by all odds the finest and most expensive monument in the cemetery. Work upon the foundation is to begin at once, and the contract requires that the entire work be completed by December Ist. The monunrent will consist of a base of sandstone, six feet cube, and extending § inches above the ground. Then the pedestal, consisting of three large blocks of Black Quincy granite; then the die or shaft, the cap and the plinth all of the same material. Above this is to be a beautiful symbolical statue of a female figure, made of Italian marble, and six feet in height. The whole structure, without the foundation, will weigh 15 tons, and the figure alone will weigh 1 ton. The total height to the top of the figure will be about 17 feet. The contract price of the work is $1,500. James Maloy, bf this place, has the contract for putting iu the foundation. It should be a matter of congratulation to all our people that the attractions of our beautiful City of the Dead, are to be so greatly enhanced as they will be by this fine piece of monumental art.
