The Candidate for Cemmissioner

JAMES F. WATSON.

‘ Mr. name wm “conspicuous by its stMMjce’’, among (ho sketches of oou«ty candidates, given in last week's Rspubmcan. The omission was not due to the fact (hat we were waiting for Mr. Watson to ’‘see” us but rather because we were waiting to see him, and to pump him for a few facts to serve as a ground-work upon which to hang a fret-work of “glittering generalities.” Mr. Watson was bom near Pittsburg, inVjarroll county, in 1844, and is therefore 42 years old. His parents came to Jasper county m 1849, since which lima the subject of this notice has been A continuous resident of the county, thus fully- entitling him ,to a place among the list of “old settlers”. Mr. Watson has never held an oilice nor .desired one. The nomination lor the important position of County Commissioner was given to him unsought and undesired. As such it is a striking compliment to the excellence of his character and abilities as a man and a citizen. His father before him was a also a most excellent and able man, and tilled the office of Commissioner for several terms. Mr. Watson lives jn the south-eastern part of Marion township, upon the old family homestead, and is one of Jasper county’s most progressive and intelligent farmers. He will make a splendid commissioner.
